ITHACA, N.Y. — Junior goaltender
Ian Shane has been named to watch list for the 2024 Mike Richter Award, the Hockey Commissioners Association announced Friday afternoon.
Shane is one of 32 goaltenders named to the award's watch list, which has been awarded annually since 2014 to the top goaltender in men's Division I hockey.
A committee of voters varying from coaches, administrators, scouts, and media, will cut the list down to 15 names over the next three weeks, while the winner of the award will be announced at the Frozen Four in St. Paul, Minn.
Joining Shane on the watch list from ECAC Hockey includes Clarkson's Austin Roden, Dartmouth's Cooper Black, Quinnipiac's Vinny Duplessis, and St. Lawrence's Ben Kraws.
This year marks the third consecutive year Shane has been named to the award's watch list. He is the first Cornell netminder in program history to be named to the watch list on three occasions. Matthew Galajda (2018-19 and 2019-20) and Mitch Gillam (2015-16 and 2016-17) were both named to the watch list twice during their careers on East Hill.
Shane has been strong between the pipes so far during the 2023-24 season, posting a 6-2-3 record over 12 appearances, all of which have been starts. He has fashioned a 1.85 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage. His goals-against average leads all ECAC Hockey netminders while ranking third nationally behind Wisconsin's Kyle McClellan (1.75) and New Hampshire's Jakob Hellsten (1.79).
The No. 18-ranked Big Red (6-4-3) returns to the ice on Friday night when it takes on No. 11-ranked Arizona State (16-3-5) in the first contest of a two-game series with the Sun Devils at Mullett Arena. Puck drop is slated for 9 p.m. ET (7 p.m. MT) with game action being broadcast on Pac-12 Insider, as well as over the airwaves on WHCU (870 AM, 97.7 FM).
