ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell men's soccer team defeated the Binghamton Bearcats 5-2 on Tuesday night at Berman Field. The Big Red improved to 6-1-2, while the Bearcats dropped to 6-4-1.
Alex Harris,
Danny Lokko,
Connor Miller,
Alioune Ka, and
Nate Hovan registered Big Red goals in the contest.
Dominik Kolbl, Ka (two), Harris,
Daniel Samways, and
Liam May were credited with assists in the match.
Ryan Friedberg registered five saves during the game.
At the 16-minute mark Harris opened up the scoring when Kolbl found him streaking down the pitch to give Cornell a 1-0 lead. The Bearcats would respond by netting the next two goals, coming from Gaven Egan and D.T. Megliola to put Binghamton ahead 2-1 at the break.
"I think we were all a bit stunned to be heading to halftime down 2-1 in a game where we were so dominant. The key thing for us in the second half was for us to remain patient and confident knowing that the goals would come at some point",
John Smith, the Dr. Daniel P. Wood Head Coach of Men's Soccer mentioned.
Cornell would be searching to make the shots count, as the first-half saw the Big Red out-shoot Binghamton 16-2 with eight of those being on-goal and only one to show on the scoreboard.
Lokko tied the game at 70:18, when Ka manuevered past Bearcat defenders finding him on a cross-pass that would sneak by Bearcat net-minder Dylan McDermott. A borage of Big Red goals would follow that game-tying goal, as Miller, Ka, and Hovan would score three-consecutive goals in a 15 minute span to give Cornell the lead and insurance.
"We have a bunch of attacking threats in our front six and that even includes guys who are coming off the bench. In a game like tonight it was going to be difficult to keep them off the board", coach Smith added.
Friedberg earned the victory in net, moving his record to 6-1-2 on the season. "We look forward to another excellent opponent on Saturday when we host Dartmouth", Smith concluded with.
