Volleyball Loses in Three to Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Cornell volleyball team (8-5, 2-2 Ivy) dropped three sets to defending Ivy League Champions Yale at the John J. Lee Amphitheater on Friday night.

Eliza Konvicka and Mackenzie Parsons led the team with seven kills each. Parsons had the best hitting percentage on the team of .333.

Senior Camryn Carlo added four more blocks to her total.

Trinidy Tien assisted the defense with a eight digs.

First Set (17-25 Yale)

Yale opened the game on a 9-1 run.

Carlo chipped away at the deficit with two kills, 5-11.

Back-to-back kills from Jaida Sione and Haley Clark brought the score within five, the closest that Cornell will come in the first set, 8-13.

Carlo and Konvicka claimed a rally stopping block to make the score 11-17, then followed up with a pair of kills from Clark and Konvicka.

The final four points earned from the Big Red came from errors by Yale, with a block from Parsons and Clark.

The Bulldogs finish out the set 17-25.

Second Set (22-25 Yale)

Points were traded evenly through the beginning of the match with kills from Konvicka, Parsons, and Sione, 5-4 Cornell.

Yale then went on another 9-1 run.

Kill by Meghan Gaffigan sparked Cornell's first run of the game. The Big Red strung together a 6-1 run to bring the score to 13-16.

A service error from Yale sent Cornell into another run with points off a block from Parsons and Gaffigan and a Konvicka kill, 19-18 Cornell.

A kill from setter Doga Ozalp tied the match up 20-20.

The Bulldogs brought it to match point before Gaffigan smashed down another point.

Konvicka and Carlo would put down one more block before Yale would take the match 22-25.

Third Set (13-25 Yale)

Yale started the set with four points to Cornell one.

A pair of kills from Parsons brought the score within two, 4-6 Yale.

Yale went on a 6-0 that was snapped with a Konvicka kill.

Both teams traded the next seven points to bring the score to 10-17.

Yale put together a 7-0 run to bring it to match point.

Cornell added three more points before Yale ended the match, 13-25.

Match Notes

Parsons hit for .800 in the third set with four kills.

This is the first time this season the Big Red has lost 3-0 in a match.

Cornell will continue its road series at Brown tomorrow night before hosting Penn and Princeton at Newman Arena.
