Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Diakos Lifts #20 Big Red Over Princeton, 1-0

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell men's soccer team defeated the Princeton Tigers 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium. The Big Red improved to 8-1-2, while the Tigers dropped to 5-4 on the year.

Giorgos Diakos registered the lone goal of the contest in the 76th-minute. The game-winning goal was assisted by Connor Miller.

Shots-on-goal were limited for the two squads throughout the contest, with Cornell edging the Tigers at a four to three count. Harris was the main aggressor, generating three of those of his own.

When Miller found Diakos in the 76th-minute for his second goal of the season, the Big Red were able to get on the board to take a 1-0 lead that held out for the remaining time of the match.

Miller has assisted on four consecutive Big Red goals, dating back to last week's Ivy League contest against Dartmouth. "Connor is a handful to play against and I thought he did a great job teeing Giorgos up for what was a lovely finish", John Smith, Dr. Daniel P. Wood Head Coach of Men's Soccer mentioned.

Cornell goaltender Ryan Friedberg has been an anchor behind a strong Big Red back-line. He collected three saves against the Tigers, and improved to 8-1-2 in net this year while earning his sixth shutout of the campaign.

"I thought it was a typical Ivy League game - very competitive and combative, with occasional bursts of really good soccer. It isn't easy to win on the road and it's especially difficult doing so in this league so to come away with a shutout win is fantastic", coach John Smith concluded with.
