PRINCETON, N.J. - The Cornell women's cross country team finished 11th out of 22 teams on Friday morning at the Princeton Fall Classic. Augustine Haquet led the way for the Big Red for the third consecutive race, finishing with a 15th-place time of 20:06.08. Mairead Clas followed Haquet, earning a time of 20:46.4 which was good for a 52nd-place result 

Mike Henderson, the Alan B. '53 and Elizabeth Heekin Harris Head Coach of Cross Country spoke in regard to the response to adversity early on in the women's race. "In the women's race they got out and were buried a little more than we wanted, but they stayed focused and moved up well", Henderson mentioned.

Haquet and Maried Clas were exceptional again, finishing as the top-two runners for the Big Red. Clas set a new personal-best in her 52nd-place time of 20:46.1. "Augustine ran a very strong race up front and almost broke the 20 minute barrier. Mairead did an excellent job moving up strong all race to post a new PR", Henderson added.

The following group in the pack stepped up well, helping to score critical points. "Maisie stepped up nicely as our number three this week to help close the gap, as did the rest of our scoring group. With Emma, Bridget, Fiona and Bronwyn finished in a tight pack. We just need to get them to slide up a little more as the season progresses", Henderson said.

"The women avenged a few teams that beat them a week ago and were right there with the others while missing one of our top runners, so they have a lot to be excited about", Henderson concluded with.

Next Action
The Cornell women's cross country team will return to East Hill to host the John Reif Memorial Invitational on Friday, October 25. The race is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. at Moakley Course.
