Kersten Leads The Way For Women's Cross Country At The John Reif Memorial Run

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell women's cross country team competed in the 5k at the John Reif Memorial Race on Friday evening, hosted by the Big Red. Hannah Kersten led the Big Red women's team through the tape, earning a third-place finish.

Mike Henderson, Alan B. '53 and Elizabeth Heekin Harris Head Coach of Cross Country was pleased with the performances as well as the turnout of the John Reif Memorial Run. "There was a fantastic turnout with alums and parents that made for a great atmosphere. I thought the athletes embraced the experience well and it showed with some strong performances", he mentioned.

Kersten led the way for the Big Red, followed by Lucia Werner (18:56.3) in the 10th-place position. "Hannah ran a strong race batting with the leaders for the first few miles and staying strong to the end", he added.

"Both teams did a nice job working in packs and staying focused and competitive the entire race", Henderson concluded with.

The Cornell women's cross country team will set its sights on the Ivy League Cross Country Championship. Ivies are set to be hosted on Saturday, November 2 at Princeton University. The race will be broadcast on ESPN+.
