Volleyball Ready to Host Harvard and Dartmouth

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell volleyball team host Harvard Crimson and Dartmouth Big Green at Newman Arena Friday and Saturday night.

CORNELL'S NUMBERS

Cornell is leading the conference in points per set (17.35), blocks per set (2.57), opp hitting percentage (.179) and team total blocks (167).

As a freshman, Parsons is one of three hitters with a hitting percentage above .400 in the conference (.420) and ranks 14th nationally.

As for the individuals, Camryn Carlo is ranked 21st nationally in blocks per set and first in the conference, averaging 1.41 per set.

Konvicka is second in the Ivy in kills per set (3.94) and points per set (4.67) behind Kamryn Chaney from Princeton in both (4.30) and (4.99).

Ozalp is second in total assist with 621 on the season.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Mackenzie Parsons was named the Ivy League's Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

The weekly honor is Parsons' fourth time receiving an accolade from the Ivy League this year. Parsons was previously named Rookie of the Week on Sept. 16 and Oct. 7 and Player of the Week on Sept. 23.

The freshman is ranked 14th nationally in hitting percentage with a .420 mark and 186 kills in 17 matches, sitting second in the Ivy.

SCOUTING HARVARD

Harvard is (9-8, 4-4 Ivy) coming off a win over Dartmouth. Cornell lost to Harvard 1-3 in the first meeting in Cambridge.

Junior Brynne Faltinsky earned Ivy League Player of the week after posting 18 kills (4.5 kills/set) and registering a season-high .378 hitting percentage with three digs and 1.5 total blocks against Dartmouth. 

Lindsey Zhang led the Crimson in the last match on the defensive end, posting a near career-best 21 digs.  After collecting her 13th dig, the senior officially surpassed the career milestone of 1,000 digs.

Ryleigh Patterson led the team with a strong .455 hitting percentage on 12 kills. Rocky Aguirre posted a double-double, collecting 42 assists, 14 digs, and five kills while hitting .300.

As a team, the Crimson registered its highest hitting percentage of the season at .279 while recording 55 kills in the last match. Harvard recorded double digit total blocks for the sixth time this season with 10.

SCOUTING DARTMOUTH

Dartmouth is 9-9 on the season and 2-6 in the Ivy League coming off loss to Harvard.

Cornell beat Dartmouth for the first time since 2019 during their first meeting of the season. Kauany Gutz notched 14 kills and 13 digs for a double-double as Dartmouth fell to Harvard 3-1.

Dartmouth leads the conference in digs per set averaging 15.10 and has the most team aces (115). Emma Engstrom has the most digs in the Ivy at 300 over 17 matches. She is second in digs per set at 4.11.

COLUMBIA RECAP

Cornell swept Columbia in their second meeting of the season.

Offensive efforts were dished out between multiple Big Red hitters. Mackenzie Parsons led the team with 11 kills on a .625 hitting percentage along with six blocks.

Jaida Sione was right behind her with 10 kills (.474) and two blocks. Eliza Konvicka (9), Camryn Carlo (7) and Kohanihokuao Misipeka (5) also got their swings in. Defensively Megan Bickel and Konvicka dug up six balls each.

The team achieved the best hitting percentage of the season with a .400 over the three sets.
