Cornell Volleyball wins the Ivy Color Battle in Five Sets

HANOVER, N.H. – The Cornell volleyball team (8-3) stays on top in Ivy League play with a 3-2 win over Dartmouth Friday night at Leede Arena, the first since 2019.

Big attack tonight for the Big Red included 52 kills. With 22 kills on the night, Eliza Konvicka recorded back-to-back games with kills over 20.

Senior Camryn Carlo stopped opposing momentum with a career-best 11 blocks to go along with five kills.

Doga Ozalp recorded a career-best 15 digs on top of her 41 assists.

First Set (22-25 Dartmouth)

Carlo and Jaida Sione assist the Big Red early in the match with kills to start the game off 5-2.

The Big Green tie it up at 6-6 before Haley Clark and Konvicka smash two kills to go up 8-6.

The Big Red get rolling with a 7-1 run sparked by an ace from Ozalp.

Dartmouth responds with a run of their own to bring the score within one, 17-16.

Konvicka chips in two more points with a kill and an ace to make the match 19-17 before the Big Green string together five points to take the lead for the first time in the match, 21-22.

Block from Sione and Carlo tie it up for the last time before the Big Green take the first set 22-25.

Second Set (16-25 Dartmouth)

Konvicka starts behind the line for Cornell and opens with two aces.

Kill by Clark and blocks from Carlo and Kohanihokuao Misipeka make it 4-0 Big Red.

Dartmouth takes the lead with a 9-2 run, 6-9.

Cornell didn't secure a run till late in the set with a 3-0 run that featured kills from Misipeka and Mackenzie Parsons. The Big Red cut into Dartmouth's lead to make it 14-19.

It was not enough to rally the Big Red and Darthmouth won out the set 16-25.

Third Set (25-20 Cornell)

Cornell opened the third set with a 9-1 run. Highlights from the run include an ace from Megan Bickel, two kills from Konvicka and blocks from Sione, Camryn, Clark, Parsons and Konvicka.

The Big Red and Big Green traded points until a 5-1 run from Dartmouth brought the point gap to within a pair, 17-15.

Cornell held onto the lead through the end of the set, capping set three off with a 5-1 rally with an ace from Sarita Pomar to end it 25-20.

Fourth Set (25-21 Cornell)

The fourth set was a set of runs with six tie ups.

While Dartmouth started with the first point of set four, the Big Red answered with the first 3-0 run of the game with a Konvicka kill and block from Carlo and Meghan Gaffigan.

Dartmouth pieced together four points (7-8) then Cornell responded with the same (11-8).

The sides continued to stay tightly contested until Dartmouth created separation again with a four-point run, 14-16.

A kill from Gaffigan and ace from Clark knot it up at 16-16.

The two teams continued to remain deadlocked in a back-and-forth battle, then Cornell finished out the set on a 7-1 run to take it to a fifth set, 25-21.

Fifth Set (16-14)

There was an even start to the final set.

Konvicka slammed three consecutive kills to take the lead 6-4.

An error from the Big Green tied it up at 9-9

Dartmouth uses a 5-1 run to bring it to match point, 10-14

Cornell closed out the set with six straight points to take the set 16-14 and the match 3-2.
