ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Mackenzie Parsons was named the Ivy League's Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. The weekly honor is Parsons' third time receiving an accolade from the Ivy League this year. Parsons was previously named Rookie of the Week on Sept. 16 and Player of the Week on Sept. 23. The freshman is one of three hitters in the Ivy League with a hitting percentage over .400 five weeks into the season and is ranked 29th nationally.
On the road vs. Dartmouth and Harvard, Parsons registered 28 kills (3.11 kills/set) on a .379 hitting percentage. She also added seven digs and four blocks. In the Harvard match, Parsons hit for .500 on 18 kills, marking her sixth consecutive game with double-digit kills.
AROUND THE LEAGUE
Cornell ranks 16th in the nation with 2.75 blocks per set. Leading the Big Red in the defensive category is
Camryn Carlo who is sixth in the nation with 1.54 blocks per set. Opponents are hitting just .159 against Cornell, which is 24th in the nation (opponent hitting pct.)
DARTMOUTH RECAP
The Cornell volleyball team defeated Dartmouth in a reverse sweep on the road. The last time Cornell beat Dartmouth at home was 2018. Senior Camryn Carlo stopped opposing momentum with a career-best 11 blocks to go along with five kills. With 22 kills on the night, Eliza Konvicka recorded back-to-back games with kills over 20. Doga Ozalp recorded a career-best 15 digs on top of her 41 assists.
HARVARD RECAP
Cornell dropped its first conference game against Harvard in four sets. Freshman Mackenzie Parsons slammed a career-best 18 kills on a .500 hitting percentage. Ozalp earned her third double-double of the season with 43 assist and 12 digs to go along with three aces. Konvicka hit double-digit kills in 10 for her 10th game of the season.
SCOUTING YALE
Yale is 8-3 on the season and 3-0 in the Ivy League. Cornell last beat Yale in 2017 and hasn't won on the road since 2005. Last season, the Big Red only took one set from the Bulldogs in the two meetings.
Yale is leading the conference in assist per set (12.11), hitting percentage (.261), kills per set (13.63) and attacks per set (35.37). As far as individuals, Cara Shultz sits on top of the league in aces per set (.41). Carly Diehl has the most Ivy assist (469) averaging 10.20 a set. Laurece Abraham holds the highest hitting percentage at .405.
Betsy Goodenow is the go-to offensive specialist for Yale with 158 total kills on the season averaging 3.43 a set. Schultz and Arya Jue lead the defensive charge for the Bulldogs with 136 and 134 digs respectfully.
Outside hitter Payton Bryan was named Ivy League Player of the Week after averaging 4.25 kills, on a .508 hitting percentage and went for back-to-back career-highs in kills in both Yale road victories last weekend. She had 19 kills (4.75 per set) and hit .643 in a victory at Princeton last Saturday.
SCOUTING BROWN
Brown is 3-10 on the season with no conference wins. Cornell's last win against Brown was in 2019 at home. Last season, Cornell fell in five sets at home in the first meeting, then lost in three on the road. After a third-place finish last season, Brown is currently at the bottom of the Ivy League.
Tuesday, in their last non-conference game against High Point, Mariia Sidorova led Brown with 13 kills and Kayla Griebl reached double figures with 11. Sidorova currently leads the team with 164 kills. Setter Julia Kakkis picked up a career-high 31 assists and added 11 digs for her first-career double-double. Jessie Golden led Brown's defense with 14 digs.
