POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Cornell fencing team advanced its perfect start to 13-0 with seven victories on Sunday afternoon at the Vassar Invitational. The eighth-ranked Big Red toppled No. 12 Yale and a pair of nationally-ranked Division III opponents while going 156-33 in individual bouts on the day.
The Big Red cruised through the day until it came to the final matchup of the day with the Bulldogs. Cornell won 21-6 or better, including a shutout of the host school Vassar by a 27-0 margin. The sabre group was the difference against Yale, going 6-3 after the teams split foil and epee.
