STREAKS, STORYLINES & SIDEBARS 

  • Cornell women's basketball is 1-2 on the season. Both loses came in close games against Rutgers and Marist.
  • Tipoff against Binghamton is set for Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Newman Arena. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
  • The Big Red welcome new Rebecca Quinn Morgan ‘60 Head Coach of Women’s Basketball this season in Emily Garner. Garner came from Trinity College where she served as the head coach since 2016. Garner picked up her first win at the helm of the program against Army on Monday, Nov. 4.
  • Cornell was selected seventh in the Ivy League preseason media poll. The Big Red is currently eighth in the standings after week one of games.
  • Cornell finished 7-19 in the 2023-24 season, ending at seventh in the Ancient Eight.

FIRST QUARTER

  • Azareya Kilgoe opened the scoring with a layup to put Cornell on the board first.
  • Morgan Lee answered with a layup of her own for Marist, Emily Pape followed with a three, but Lee immediately answered with a three of her own to make the score 5-5.
  • Kilgoe was fouled on her shot and made both of her free throw shots to put Cornell up 7-5 with six minutes left in the first quarter.
  • After a media timeout, Ciara Croker hit a three for Marist to tie the game at seven. 
  • Emily Pape then had a steal and Clarke Jackson hit a layup off of Pape's rebound to put Cornell up by two. 
  • Julia Corsentino then hit a three to put Marist up 10-9 and Jackson hit a jumper to switch the lead once again putting Cornell up 11-10 with 1:40 left in the quarter.
  • Jackie Piddock was fouled for Marist and made both shots to put Marist up 12-11.
  • Summer Parker-Hall hit a layup with under 20 seconds left in the quarter to put Cornell up 13-12 at the end of the first. 

 

SECOND QUARTER

  • Cornell opened the second quarter scoring on a nine-point run, putting the Big Red up 22-12.
  • Marist took a timeout and went on a five-point run before Cornell called a timeout. 
  • Parker-Hall was fouled and made both at the line to put Cornell up 24-17 with under four minutes left in the half.
  • Marist answered with an eight-point run putting them in the lead 25-24. 
  • Pape hit a jumper with under 20 seconds left in the quarter to put Cornell up 26-25 at halftime.

 

THIRD QUARTER

  • Marist opened with an eight-point run putting the Red Foxes up 33-26.
  • Kilgoe drew a foul for Cornell and made both, bringing the score within five. 
  • Danielle Williamson answered with a three for Marist extending the lead to eight.
  • Paige Engels hit a jumper for Cornell to cut the lead to six.
  • Marist went on a six-point run.
  • Pape hit a layup off of a rebound, but Tarul answered for Marist with a layup of her own making the score 32-44.
  • Jackson hit a jumper and then made two foul shots on the next drive to cut the lead to eight. 
  • Croker made a layup and Parker-Hall answered, making the score 46-38 in favor of Marist at the end of the third quarter. 

 

FOURTH QUARTER

  • Brooke Jarvis opened the fourth quarter with a layup for Marist.
  • Pape answered with a three for Cornell cutting the lead to seven.
  • Chloe Escanillas hit a three to extend Marist's lead back to ten.
  • Pape answered with a three of her own. 
  • Croker and Rachel Kaus traded jumpers making the score 53-46 in favor of Marist. 
  • Kilgoe hit a jumper while being fouled. She missed the and-one but Cornell got the rebound and Pape hit a three-pointer to cut Marist's lead to two with a score of 53-51. 
  • After a Marist timeout, Jackson was fouled for Cornell and made both to tie the game at 53. 
  • Marist answered with back-to-back threes to make the score 59-53.
  • Parker-Hall hit a layup for Cornell to cut Marist's lead to four. 
  • Lee was fouled with 1:34 left on a three-point attempt and made all three free throws to extend the Red Foxes lead to seven with under a minute left.
  • Kilgoe was fouled with five seconds left on the clock and went 1-1 making the score 62-56 in favor of Marist to end the game.
