HOPKINTON, N.H. - The Cornell men's cross country team earned a third-place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regionals.
Derek Amicon (5th - 29:59.85),
Damian Hackett (13th - 30:16.89), and Pierre Attigobe (20th - 30:25.05) were the top Big Red pacers on the day, all running inside of the top-20.
Mike Henderson, the Alan B. '53 and Elizabeth Heekin Harris Head Coach of Cross Country, was proud of his team's energy and effort today although they fell just short of a historic feat. "I'm really proud of the mens effort today. The men have not qualified to NCAA finals as a team since 1993, and that's what they had their sights on. It looks like we will be the first team to miss out this year. So that's tough to face that, but they ran their hearts out and have tons to be proud of with their performance today", Henderson mentioned.
Amicon, who has been Cornell's top runner all season, clinched an NCAA Championships bid with his sixth-place result at regionals. "Derek being fifth was an outstanding effort. He ran with confidence and composure out there. Jake ran the best race of his life. He just missed all-region but was so critical in helping set the tone for the group today that I can't say enough good things  about what he did today", Henderson concluded with.
