PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Cornell fencing team went 4-1, with three of those wins coming over top 15 squads, to close out an impressive weekend at Penn's Elite Invitational on Sunday afternoon at the Tse Center. Cornell upped its record to 17-1 on the year.
Cornell opened the day with a a pair of 17-10 victories over No. 11 Temple and No. 14 Stanford before suffering its first loss of the season, a 17-10 contest to No. 5 Northwestern. After a bye in round four, the Big Red finished the afternoon strong with victories over North Carolina (16-11) and a tight 15-12 victory over No. 7 Penn.Â
The sabre unit had an outstanding afternoon, going 30-15 on the day with both
Samantha Marsee (11-4) and Isabella Carvalho (10-4) winning double-digit bouts to propel the group. Foil's
Rei Weintraub had a great day with a 10-3 mark, whjile All-American
Ketki Ketkar was 8-2 in epee.
Cornell closes out the fall semester with competition at the Brandeis Invitational on Sunday, Dec. 8 in Waltham, Mass.
