BABSON PARK, MA — Cornell Men's Polo secures a 16-15 win over Babson College on Saturday with a last minute goal from junior Benito Jaramillo Samper after Babson tied the game up. This win improves Cornell's record to 3-2 on the season.
Freshman Max Sponer led the Big Red in scoring with six goals on the night. Senior Christian Finlay followed close behind with five, Jaramillo had four and freshman Dylan Tung rounded out the scoring with one.
"Babson really tested our resolve by tying the game with less than a minute to go, closing the gap on our previously held four goal lead," said Peter B. Orthwein `68 Head Coach of Polo Anthony Condo Jr. "
FIRST CHUCKER

Finlay scored the game opening goal and it was soon followed by a goal from Sponer to put Cornell up 2-0 early in the first.

Juan Mazer and Leonardo Borja opened up scoring for the Beavers with two from Mazer and one from Borja to give Babson the lead 3-2.

Jaramillo answered with two goals back-to-back to give Cornell a 4-3 advantage.

Borja then notched a goal for the Beavers to even the score at four a piece as time expired in the first chucker.
SECOND CHUCKER

Cornell came into the second chucker with a vengeance scoring four goals in a row with one from Sponer and three from Finlay back-to-back-to-back.

Before the end of the chucker, Mazer and Borja each scored once.

The end of the second chucker ended with a score of 8-6.
THIRD CHUCKER

Borja opened up the third chucker with two goals for Babson to bring the game back to an 8-8 tie.

The Big Red answered with four goals in a row. Sponer with two and Tung and Jaramillo with one each. This put Cornell up by four goals for the second time in the game.

Borja then notched two more for the Beavers and Sponer ended the chucker with a goal for the Big Red.

Cornell went into the fourth chucker 13-10.
FOURTH CHUCKER

Sponer opened the fourth chucker with a goal to extend Cornell's lead to four.

Babson then scored five goals in a row to put them in the lead for the first time of the game with less than a minute left in the chucker. Borja notched two, Joaquin Caicedo notched two and Mazer notched one.

With the score 15-14 in favor of Babson and less than a minute to go, Cornell's Jaramillo and Finlay each scored one more time to earn the Big Red a 16-15 victory.
"We are still working on our team chemistry and getting our guys all on the same page from start to finish. Make no mistake, I am thrilled with the W for our guys, but our team still has a lot to improve on as we head towards the Spring season and ultimately into post-season play."
Cornell will play another game on Sunday, November 3 at Harvard at 11:00 a.m.
