CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- No. 11 Harvard scored four second half goals to pull away for a 4-0 shutout of Cornell on Saturday afternoon at Berylson Field. Cornell's loss, combined with the other Saturday afternoon results around the league, officially eliminated the Big Red from the Ivy Tournament race. The Big Red slipped to 6-9 (3-4 Ivy), while the Crimson improved to 13-3 (6-1 Ivy).
The two teams were deadlocked at 0-0 after 30 minutes in a game that saw Harvard hold an 8-0 advantage in shots, but the Big Red had the territorial advantage. The Crimson got on the board in the 38th minute when Piekarski slotted in a shot with Lara Beekhuis getting the assist. It was the lone chance for a Harvard team that was out-shot 8-2 with the visitors holding a 6-0 edge in corners in the quarter.
Cornell took some chances after falling behind 1-0 in a must-win game for its Ivy Tournament hopes, and the high-scoring Crimson scored three times in the span on 3:45 in the fourth quarter to salt the game away.
Georgia Kelly led the offense with seven shot attempts, with six players putting at least one shot on goal for the Big Red.
Martha Broderick stopped three shots in goal.
Sage Piekarski scored a pair of goals as six different Crimson players scored at least one point, while Tessa Shahbo made six saves over the final three quarters of action to earn the win in goal.
Cornell will close out the regular season when it faces Boston University tomorrow at 2 p.m. at New Balance Field.
