MADISON, Wi. -
Derek Amicon placed 48th at the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championship on Saturday morning at Thomas Zimmer Cross Country Course. Amicon ran a time of 29:31.0 to secure the best individual place for the Big Red at the championships in 20 years.
Mike Henderson, the Alan B. '53 and Elizabeth Heekin Harris Head Coach of Cross Country, was proud of how Amicon performed as the lone Big Red representative in the championship. "Derek did a fantastic job today. To be top 50 in his first trip to the meet is an outstanding showing. He ran with confidence, Â composure and really represented himself and the program well", he mentioned.
Henderson spoke about the journey that Amicon has been through and his vast improvement from his first season to his last race. "His result today was the culmination of the great work he's done during his career here. To go from not making the heps team as a freshman to being 6 seconds away from an all American as a senior is a tribute to the work and commitment he's had for the past four years", Henderson concluded with.
