ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell Big Red wrestling team shut out the Buffalo Bulls 37-0 in its first dual of the season at historic Barton Hall Saturday afternoon.

The Big Red recorded three major decisions and two technical falls in front of a crowd of youth wrestlers.

Senior Greg Diakomihalis opened the duel with a 14-2 major decision over Max Elton. Diakomihalis opened with a quick pair of takedowns in the first period to set the pace.

Junior Brett Ungar only took one period to earn a 15-0 technical fall at 3:00 over Troy Guerra.

With riding time, Josh Saunders earned the second major decision taking down Aaron Lanster 11-2.

Ethan Fernandez and Sam Ewing were tied up 4-4 after the first period with escapes and takedowns from each wrestler. Fernandez came out on top at 12-5 after two more takedowns.

Nate Wade came from behind to beat Kaleb Burgess 7-5. Burgess started with a takedown in the first period to take the lead 3-0. With a takedown, near fall, and a penalty point all in the third period, Wade earned three team points for Cornell.

Evan Canoyer earned one take down in each period of the match to beat Hunter Shaut 9-2.

Freshman Simon Ruiz, wrestling in his first collegiate dual, dominated his match against Dylan Schell. Jumping out to a 7-1 lead with two takedowns and a stall point in the first period, Ruiz won 20-4 by technical fall.

With two takedowns in the first period and riding time Colt Barley beat Marcus Petite 7-2 by decision.

Freshman Mikey Dellagatta beat Lonnell Owens-Pabon with two takedowns, a reversal, a rideout and stall points in the first two periods before adding two more to take the match 11-1 by major decision with over four minutes of riding time.

Aiden Compton had one escape and riding time point to beat Jack MacDonald 2-0.
