PRINCETON, N.J. — The Cornell men's lightweight rowing V8+ and V4+ crews placed second overall in their respective races at the Princeton Chase on Sunday on the waters of Lake Carnegie.
In the Big Red's first event of the day, Cornell's V8+ finished in second place behind a time of 12:32.612, crossing the finish line just 1.030 seconds after Princeton (12:31.582). Penn, who led at the halfway point with a 6:57.885 split, finished 98-thousandths of a second behind Cornell. Georgetown's varsity crew was fourth after clocking a 12:38.163 time.
Cornell's 'B' crew finished ninth overall and fourth among junior varsity crews after logging a 13:01.335 piece. The Big Red's 'C' and 'D' crews finished second among their respective entries. Princeton's 3V8+ and Navy's 4V8+ were the top-finishing boats.
Competing against heavyweight and lightweight crews, Cornell's frosh 8+ finished second among lightweight entries and fifth overall with a 13:20.242 time to begin the second round of 8+ races. Princeton (12:57.495) earned a first-place finish while Wisconsin registered a 13:08.561 time after being docked a 10-second penalty. Also finishing ahead of the Big Red was Princeton's varsity lightweight crew (13:16.318) and Wisconsin's junior varsity 8+ (13:17.763).
The other Big Red 8+ entry in the afternoon race finished 15th overall (14:04.779) and second among junior varsity lightweight crews, trailing Princeton (13:44.884).
Among the quartet of coxed four entries that Cornell had the 1V4+ placed fourth overall with a 14:13.099 time, the best of any lightweight crew and 0.846 seconds ahead of Penn's varsity 4+. Cornell's 2V4+ and 3V4+ finished back-to-back in ninth and 10th places behind respective times of 14:29.910 and 14:37.116. The 4V4+ placed 18th overall behind a 15:15.511 piece.
