ITHACA, N.Y. -- Sophomore wide receiver
Samuel Musungu has been named the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week after his big effort this past weekend in a 49-35 victory at Princeton. It is Musungu's first weekly honor from the conference.
Musungu hauled in eight passes for 165 yards and a touchdown, with his highlight-reel 13-yard scoring reception in the final minute of the half playing a big part in sealing the victory. Musungu's 82-yard pass reception that flipped the field early in the third quarter was the sixth-longest pass play in Big Red history. The 165 yards are tied for the 16th-best effort in school history and accounted for his first 100-yard game.
The Big Red sophomore now has 55 catches for 660 yards and six touchdowns in 2024. He paces the league in catches, is second in receiving yards and third in touchdown catches. In fact, the reception total already ranks 16th in a single season at Cornell, while the yardage total ranks 24th. Only eight players have scored more than six receiving touchdowns in a season with three games remaining.
Musungu and the Big Red return home to face Penn on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. at Schoellkopf Field in a battle for the Trustees Cup.
