ITHACA, N.Y. — The No. 8-ranked Cornell women's squash team returns to action this weekend when it travels to Massachusetts for a pair of road matches against No. 12-ranked Tufts and No. 15-ranked Amherst.
Cornell (1-1) will first face Tufts (1-4) on Saturday, Dec. 7, with first matches beginning at 1 p.m. from the Tufts Squash Center in Medford, Mass. Upon its return to Ithaca, the Big Red will make a pit-stop in Amherst, Mass., where it will face Amherst (3-0) on Sunday, Dec. 8, with matches starting at noon. Both matches will be streamed live on PlaySight.com.
Sophomore
Xin Ying Yee (No. 1) and freshman
Sabine Ball (No. 7) are the lone pair of Big Red players to remain undefeated on the season. Both players registered four-game victories against opponents from Stanford (Nov. 22) before posting three-game sweeps in Cornell's victory over Williams (Nov. 24).
SCOUTING TUFTS
Tufts enters this weekend with a 1-4 overall record as the Jumbos have lost their last four matches after opening the season with a 6-3 victory over No. 12-ranked Georgetown on Nov. 15. All four of the Jumbos' losses have come against opponents ranked in the top 10 of the College Squash Association (CSA) rankings: top-ranked Harvard (9-0), No. 2-ranked Trinity (9-0), No. 9-ranked Columbia (7-2) and No. 10-ranked Drexel (7-2).
Nieve Monderer is the lone Tufts player with multiple wins on the season, as she has a 2-2 record on the year. Both of her victories have come at the No. 7 position.
SERIES HISTORY WITH TUFTS
Cornell and Tufts will be meeting for the ninth time on Saturday. The Big Red, who owns a 7-1 all-time record against the Jumbos, will be seeking to extend its seven-match win streak. During the win streak, Cornell has won at least seven matches in each contest and has eight-plus games won in all but one match.
Saturday will be the second-ever contest between Cornell and Tufts on the Jumbos' home court. The other instance came on Dec. 6, 1997, where the Big Red registered a clean sweep of the Jumbos.
Tufts' lone victory over Cornell came in the inaugural meeting between the programs, 5-4, on Jan. 18, 1997, in a neutral site match played at Williams in Williamstown, Mass.
SCOUTING AMHERST
Amherst enters this weekend with a 3-0 overall record, having defeating Connecticut College (Nov. 20), Hamilton (Nov. 23), and William Smith (Nov. 24) all by 9-0 scores.
It is the Mammoths' first time starting a season 3-0 since winning its first four games to begin the 2017-18 season.
Tanmai Pathak, Alex Brown, Kristen Daniel, Brigid Brandon, Ella Miller, Morgan Chaudhary, Clara Dawn, and Suraiya Suri have all started the season 3-0 for Amherst.
SERIES HISTORY WITH AMHERST
Sunday will be the 10th all-time meeting between Cornell and Amherst. The Big Red leads the series, 6-3, and has won each of the last five contests.
Cornell posted an 8-1 victory over Amherst last season which also occurred at the Davenport Squash Center.
