ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell wrestling wraps up the first day of the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas in 11th of 30 with 29 team points and three wrestlers heading into final rounds.
Simon Ruiz will be competing for first place starting in the semi-final round against Dean Hamiti Jr of Oklahoma State. Marcello Milani and Ethan Fernandez will both wrestle for third.
Top Highlights
- Freshman Ruiz (174 pounds) earned his first win over a ranked opponent with a 6-1 decision over No. 24 Matthew Singleton of NC State. He followed it up with a win over No. 9 Lenny Pinto (Nebraska) to send him to the semifinals.
- Fernandez beat No. 16 Jesse Vasquez (Arizona State) 11-4.
- Evan Canoyer beat Mike McGhee (Sacred Heart) 17-2 with four takedowns and one nearfall.
