Harvard Holds off Women's Hoops in 63-52 Decision

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Big Red's defense held the Crimson second-fewest points in Ivy play, but Harvard took home the 63-52 victory on Saturday afternoon. Cornell falls to 7-12 (1-6 Ivy), while Harvard improves to 12-8 (5-2).

Azareya Kilgoe and Kaya Ingram each added a double-digit point performance to the season, tallying 14 and 11, respectively. Kilgoe added seven rebounds and Ingram tallied a team-high four assists. Emily Pape led the Big Red at the boards with nine rebounds, while also grabbing two steals. Summer Parker-Hall matched her season-high blocks with two.

Katie Krupa led the Crimson with 24 points as half of her double-double. The sophomore forward also grabbed a career-high 10 boards. Harvard had one other double-digit scorer in Lola Mullaney. Saniyah Glenn led the Crimson in assists with four. Harmoni Turner, the Ivy League's second-leading scorer, was held to a season-low eight points.

A back-to-back first quarter saw no more than a two-point lead for either team until 6:24 remained when Harvard began to pull ahead to an 8-4 lead. A 4-2 run closed the first quarter to give Harvard a 17-13 lead. The second quarter flipped the momentum with Cornell hitting a 7-3 run to knot the game at 20 before a 9-3 run for Harvard brought up a 29-23 lead for the Crimson at the half.

Scoring droughts plagued both teams entering the third quarter. The Crimson found the basket to break its drought after 2:26, but Cornell would go without a field goal for 4:12. It was Kilgoe who got the Big Red back on track out of a timeout called by the Rebecca Quinn Morgan '60 Head Coach of Women's Basketball, Dayna Smith, to cut the deficit to 10. Emily Pape hit a jumper less than two minutes later to continue to chip away at the Harvard lead, and the teams traded buckets to close the fourth and keep the Cornell deficit to eight.

The fourth quarter opened on a 7-4 Cornell run, forcing a Harvard timeout with 7:58 to go. Harvard hit a three immediately out of the break, but Cornell kept its foot on the gas, cutting the deficit to 51-47 before Harvard flipped the switch to close on a 12-5 run.
