STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — The Cornell softball team lost to Lehigh and Binghamton at the Penn State Tournament on Saturday, falling to 2-11 on the season. The Big Red faces Binghamton again at 12:30 p.m. Sunday to close the weekend.
GAME 1: Lehigh 11, Cornell 5
Junior Emma Antich hit a two-run home run, and senior Lily Travieso drove in one with a sacrifice fly to give Cornell a 3-0 lead in the third inning.
Lehigh tied the game with a three-run fifth inning and took the lead with an eight-run seventh. Josie Charles had the big blow in that frame, clearing the bases with a three-run triple that gave the Moutain Hawks a 10-3 lead. Charles came around to score on Emily Cimino's double to make the score 11-3.
In the bottom of the seventh, Sydney Stapf hit a two-run shot, her first homer of the season, to cut Lehigh's lead to 11-5.
GAME 2: Binghamton 9, Cornell 1 (five innings)
Sophomore
Ella Harrod gave Cornell a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a single that scored sophomore
Kate Callaway. Binghamton responded in the second, taking a 2-1 lead on Shelby Carvalho's two-run homer. Lindsey Walter hit an inside-the-park homer, and Allison L'Amoreaux belted a solo shot in the third to make it 4-1. Carvalho hit her second homer of the game to put Binghamton up 5-1 in the fourth inning. The Bearcats added four more runs in the fifth inning to close out the game.
