HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Cornell women's ice hockey team fell short of an NCAA Frozen Four Berth with a 3-1 loss to Colgate in the regional finals on Saturday evening from Class of 1965 Arena.
Kaitlin Jockims scored the Big Red goal in the contest, which was assisted by
Alyssa Regalado and
Karel Prefontaine.
The first period was a battle for the Big Red, making key saves and skating in front of pucks. Most notably, during the Raiders first power-play that Cornell managed to stave off. After a costly Cornell mistake, Colgate took advantage finding Kaltounkova for the first score of the game.
Cornell did not back off in the second, applying heavy pressure on the Raiders. Seconds after an unsuccessful power-play, Regalado ripped a shot toward net which was tipped in by Jockims to tie the game at one apiece.
Both teams fought hard in the third, leaving the score at 1-1 with five minutes remaining. The Raiders saw a key opportunity when the puck was loose in their zone that they would take advantage of to get the go-ahead goal.
Cornell would pull the goaltender with two minutes remaining. Although they managed some opportunities on net, none would go in. With five seconds remaining, Biederman collected the loose puck and skated in to add empty-net insurance for Colgate.
