Box Score 2 PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Cornell softball team snapped its 10-game losing streak on Friday as it opened Ivy League Play with a doubleheader split against the Penn Quakers. Cornell faces Penn at 12:30 p.m. Sunday in the series finale.
Game One: Penn 3, Cornell 2
A two-run sixth inning pushed the Quakers past the Big Red in the first game of the doubleheader at Penn Park.
Cornell freshman Hailey Pirkey gave the Big Red a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth with her first collegiate home run. In the bottom half of the inning, Chloe Lesko tied the game on an infield single. She came around to score the winning run on a wild pitch.
Cornell sophomore pitcher Madalyn Covelli pitched all six innings. She struck out three batters and gave up just four hits.
Junior Emma Antich drove in the other Cornell run, plating Callaway on a groundout to the pitcher.
Game Two: Cornell 7, Penn 4
Ella Harrod hit her first career home run, and Lauren Holt blasted a three-run shot as the Big Red snapped its 10-game losing streak Friday night with a 7-4 extra-innings victory over the Penn Quakers at Penn Park.
Harrod gave Cornell a 2-1 lead with her homer in the fifth inning, and Holt broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the eighth inning to give Cornell a 7-4 lead. Maddie Ullensvang, Sydney Stapf and Hailey Pirkey also drove in runs for the Big Red.
Cornell pitcher Kyrie Denny earned her first win of the season in the circle. She pitched all eight innings.
