CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Two new program marks in the 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke were secured during the final day of the 2024 Ivy League Championships for the Cornell men's swimming and diving squad on Saturday evening from the Bay State.

The first event of the evening session came with the 1650 freestyle, as freshmen Julian Correa and Owen Dankert looked to secure the first team points of the evening for the Big Red. Correa earned 15th overall and 12 points for Cornell with his time of 15:27.01, while Dankert earned four team points with his final time of 15:39.54.

Cornell started the day with two swimmers competing in the fastest final of the 200 backstroke in Pietro Ubertalli, who shaved almost three quarters of a second off his seeded time (1:43.03), and Blake Conway grabbed the final spot in the A-Final (1:44.87). Ubertalli's momentum carried over into the final, earning bronze with a 1:41.96. That time also beats his previous program record set during last year's championships. Conway did not improve his time but earned 22 points with his eighth overall placing. Senior Logan Holt also qualified for the B-Final, knocking 0.23 seconds off his preliminary time to secure 14th (1:48.21). Sliding over to the 100 freestyle, Jack Banks swam his way into the second-fastest final with a season-best 44.07. The junior had a better swim in the evening session, earning 12th overall with his final time of 43.91. Dominic Edwards also secured a spot in the C-Final, taking home sixth (44.87).

The third event of the evening saw all four Big Red entries scattered throughout each final in the 200 breaststroke. Captain Sebastian Wolff secured his third individual top final appearance on the weekend, swimming a 1:57.07 in the morning. Wolff followed that up with a sixth-place finish A-Final, shaving 0.05 seconds from his morning time. Connor Brown and Haihan Xu earned the final two spots in the B-Final, earning 11th (1:58.17) and 12th (1:58.64). Junior Thatcher Dowdy rounded out the foursome in the C-Final, knocking nearly a second off his prelim time to secure the last point up for grabs.

Jumping over to the 200 butterfly, junior Joseph Gurski (1:44.56) and sophomore Jacques Grove (1:45.06) swam the fifth and sixth best times in the morning session to secure their place in the top final. Gurski found himself on his second and final individual podium, besting his own program record set during the team's last regular season meet against Brown with a 1:43.64. Grove also put in a shift, earning fifth overall (1:45.39). Andrew Lin also grabbed a spot in the C-Final, touching the wall at 1:49.05 to snag three points.

With the individual races in the rearview mirror, Cornell looked to set one more blistering pace in the 400 freestyle relay. Although it did not break the school record, the quartet of Wolff, Grove, Banks, and Edwards closed out the meet with a fourth-place finish at 2:54.70. Banks ended up being the fastest out of the four in his shift, swimming a combined 43.50 over the 100 yards.

Looking at the final standings, Cornell earned seventh for the third straight season, piling up 798.50 points. That total is the most the Big Red has scored since earning 878.5 and sixth overall during the 2020 championships held in Massachusetts. The host Crimson took home the team championships for the seventh straight season with 1682 points, 361 ahead of runner-up Princeton (1321). Yale rounded out the podium with 1030 combined points over the 21 events.

After four days at Blodgett Pool, the Big Red closes the 2024 Ivy Championships with five new program records and multiple season bests.
