HAMILTON, N.Y. - The no. 6-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team dropped its ECAC Hockey Semifinals contest to no. 4 Colgate 5-1 on Friday evening at Class of 1965 Arena. The Big Red will turn its sights to the NCAA Tournament selection show, which is set for Sunday at 12:00 noon. The NCAA Tournament selection slow is set to air on ESPNNews.
Grace Dwyer registered the lone Big Red goal of the contest, which was assisted by
Claudia Yu and
Gabbie Rud.
The Big Red played the better part of the opening period on the defensive end. Bergmann was tested 10 times, allowing one to get past her on a Colgate power-play. Cornell would manage two shots on goal in the first stanza, and a handful of chances that were either blocked or sailed wide.
Cornell and Colgate were on the defensive grind in the second period, holding each other off of the scoreboard. Cornell registered more chances on goal in the second frame, but missed on a few prime opportunities to light the lamp.
The Big Red made it a game midway through the third period, when
Grace Dwyer poked in a gritty goal in front of the net to move the score even at 1-1. The remaining 10 minutes of the game would be all Raiders as they would rattle off four consecutive goals, advancing themselves to the ECAC Hockey Championship game.
Annelies Bergmann finished the game with 39 saves. Her record between the pipes dropped to 19-7-1.
