ST. PAUL, Minn. — The accolades keep flowing in for Cornell men's hockey's
Ian Shane as the junior goaltender was named a Second Team East All-American by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) on Friday night.
Last month, Shane was unanimously named the Ivy League Player of the Year and a First Team All-Ivy selection, and was an undisputed First Team All-ECAC Hockey honoree, ultimately leading to be named selected as the conference's Ken Dryden Goaltender of the Year, presented by MAC Goaltending. Shane earned four ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Month awards and was ECAC Hockey's top goaltender of the week on six occasions.
Shane is Cornell's first All-American goaltender since Matthew Galajda was a first team selection in 2018, and is the 11th Big Red netminder to earn the distinction, joining Ken Dryden (1967-69), Brian Hayward (1982), Daren Eliot (1983), Doug Dadswell (1986), Parris Duffus (1992), Matt Underhill (2002), David LeNeveu (2003), David McKee (2005), and Ben Scrivens (2010).
One of three players from ECAC Hockey to earn All-American honors (Quinnipiac forward Collin Graf — 2nd Team East Forward, Union defenseman John Prokop — 2nd Team East Defenseman), Shane concluded the 2023-24 season with a 22-5-6 record, while finishing with a Division I-best 1.69 goals-against average, and a .923 save percentage that ranked seventh nationally entering this weekend's Frozen Four.
Since the calendar flipped to 2024, Shane posted a 16-3-3 record with a 1.61 goals-against average and stopping 92.7 percent of the shots he faced (460 saves on 496 shots).
