Four Earn All-Ivy Softball Honors

5/8/2024 10:00:00 AM

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Four Cornell softball players earned All-Ivy League recognition when the Ivy League revealed its 2024 All-Ivy teams and major awards on Wednesday morning.

The league's coaches voted sophomore Lauren Holt (catcher) and freshman Hailey Pirkey (utility) to the second team. Senior Lilly Travieso (third base) garnered honorable mention recognition, and sophomore Sydney Stapf earned academic All-Ivy honors.

Holt, a second-team All-Ivy performer as a freshman last year, led the league in RBI (41) and finished second in home runs (9) this season. She drove in multiple runs in 11 games and became the first Cornell player since 2010 -- and one of nine in program history -- to drive in 40 or more runs in a season. Holt started all 37 games at catcher and caught 23 runners attempting to steal, tied for the second most in the Ivy League and 23rd nationally.

Pirkey emerged as an offensive threat for the Big Red during Ivy League play after starting the season 2 for 25. Against Ivy competition, she hit .339 with four home runs (tied for fourth in the league) and five doubles (tied for fifth) while driving in 14 runs (ninth). She had a 1.134 OPS (ninth) and took 11 walks (tied for eighth) in conference play.

A second-team All-Ivy selection in 2022, Travieso consistently produced offensively and defensively while playing in 36 of the Big Red's 37 games. She finished the season as the team's leader in overall (.330) and conference (.390) batting average and tied her career high in hits (32). At third base, Travieso recorded 28 putouts, 71 assists and just eight errors in 64 chances. She helped turn three double plays.

Stapf, studying biological sciences, earned academic All-Ivy honors for the first time in her career. She recently became a member of Cornell's 400 Club, which recognizes Big Red student-athletes who have a 4.0 or higher grade-point average.
