Box Score ANNAPOLIS, MD — The Navy sprint football team (2-0) held Cornell (1-1) scoreless on Friday in Annapolis, beating the Big Red 49-0 in its 15th consecutive win of the series.
Navy's starting quarterback, Luke Wagner finished the game 10-for-16 for 144 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Hunter Gennicks led the scoring drive for the Midshipmen with three rushing touchdowns. Broderick Freeman and Luke O'Connell each tallied one rushing touchdown apiece and the lone receiving touchdown was scored by Chris Stumpf. Navy also tallied three field goals by Jacori Sutton.
The Midshipmen had a net 448 yards rushing, Gennicks led the team with 158. Navy also had a net 148 yards passing with Stumpf leading in receiving yards tallying 71.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Midshipmen had five interceptions and four sacks. Although Navy was dominant in this game, they did tally a significant number of penalties. The Midshipmen had 17 penalties totaling 145 yards.
Moving on to the Big Red, Max Spero finished the game 6-for-17 for 46 yards and 4 interceptions.
The Big Red struggled with moving the ball on the ground. Kevin Lopez led the team in rushing yards with 13. Cornell tallied a net 93 yards passing. Leo Madera led the team in receiving with 39 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, Evan Nicholas had an interception and Zach Glenn was able to record a sack on Wagner.
Cornell will look to regroup before traveling to Philadelphia to face off against Chestnut Hill on October 5th at 6:00 p.m.
