FIeld Hockey Wins Third Straight, Shuts Out Colgate 4-0

HAMILTON, N.Y. -- The Cornell field hockey team won its third straight contest, capitalizing on four different goal scorers to claim a 4-0 win over Colgate on Sunday afternoon at Tyler's Field. The Big Red improved to 3-5, while the Raiders slipped to 2-6.

Julia Ramsey scored her team-best fourth goal to lead seven Cornell players with at least one point to lead the Big Red offense. The visitors held a 20-3 advantage in shots and drew 17 penalty corners from the Raiders without surrendering one itself. Vivienne Mueller was credited with the game-winning goal, while Georgia Kelly and Grace Leahy also found the back of the cage. It was the second consecutive game with a score for Leahy.

Martha Broderick made three saves in goal while picking up her 15th collegiate win in goal, while Jane McNally played the final 2:14 to assist in the shutout.

From the jump, the Big Red applied pressure early and often, but couldn't seem to break through. The visitors had the only four shots and drew four penalty corners, but could not find a goal in the scoreless first quarter.

Just 1:02 into the second quarter, Olivia Friedberg had a great find as she charged to goal from the left side and sent it over to Vivienne Mueller to get the visitors on the board. That's the way the first half would end.

The second half was more of the same until Cornell capitalized on corner number 14 of the day. Georgia Kelly's blast on a feed from Ramsey and a hold from Claire Wolfe made it 2-0, and 13 seconds later Leahy netted her goal to make it 3-0.

Ramsey posted her fourth score of the season late in the fourth to add some insurance. Ashley Plzak was credited with the assist.
