ITHACA, N.Y. -- Take a look back at the first win under
Dan Swanstrom on Homecoming on September 28, 2024, at Schoellkopf Field where Cornell topped the Bulldogs, 47-23, with these notes below.
PLAYER NOTES
- Senior Jameson Wang's five touchdowns (four passing, one rushing) match the school record for most touchdowns accounted (twice by Ed Marinaro '72, twice by Jeff Mathews '14).
- Wang became the sixth player at Cornell to surpass 5,000 career passing yards (5,017).
- Wang scored his 21st career rushing touchdown to move into sixth place in school history.
- The senior quarterback upped his career rushing total to 1,412 yards, moving into 17th in school history by surpassing Jeff Johnson '87 (1,377), Deon Harris '00 (1,400) and Terry Smith '98 (1,401) to reach the top 20.
- With 6,429 yards of total offense, Wang is fifth on the school's list and is now just 66 yards from jumping into the top four.
- Wang's four passing touchdowns on the day give him 34 for his career, matching Bill Lazor '94 for third all-time for the Big Red.
- Wang's seven touchdowns are tied for the most by a Big Red player in his first two games to start a season, matching Jeff Mathews '14 in 2012 (three at Fordham, 4 vs. Yale).
- Sophomore Ryder Kurtz made his first career catch count, going 68 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter. The reception was the longest in school history by a tight end.
- The 68-yard play was the longest to go for a Big Red touchdown since Davon Kiser returned a kickoff 91 yards against Dartmouth in 2022.
- Sophomore Ean Pope scored his second career rushing touchdown and reached the end zone for the third time in his career.
- Pope's 143 all-purpose yards were a career high.
- Sophomore Sam Musungu had touchdown receptions for the second straight game to start the season.
- Sophomore Alan Zhao's 11 kicking points (two field goals, five PATs) are the most by a Big Red player since Nickolas Null '20 scored 13 in the 2019 matchup with Brown (three field goals, four PATs).
- Junior Rick Coleman Jr. had three passes defended with his first career interception along with a pair of breakups. All three came within a four-play span in the fourth quarter.
- Juniors Parker Woodring and Ben Sahakian both recovered fumbles.
- A total of 22 players were credited with at least one tackle for the Big Red.
TEAM NOTES
- Cornell is now 126-2 when scoring at least 40 points in a game.
- The Big Red improved to 38-36-2 all-time on Homecoming, snapping a five-game skid with the victory.
- Cornell won its second straight Ivy League opener against Yale and improved to 30-36-2 in the first conference contest of the season.
- The victory snapped a six-game losing streak in home openers and improved to 95-36-5 in those 136 seasons.
- The 47 points scored by the Big Red were its most against a Bulldogs team since it posted a 48-14 triumph on Oct. 15, 1949 at the Yale Bowl.
- The Big Red offensive line has not allowed a sack in two contests this year on 66 dropbacks.
- Cornell's 197 rushing yards were the most by the Big Red in a game since rushing for 229 yards in a 34-20 win over Colgate in 2021.
- The Big Red's 475 yards of total offense were the most since recording 501 in a 49-45 loss to Brown in 2021.
- The team's 24-point win was its largest over Yale since a 45-6 victory over Schoellkopf Field in 2012 and is its biggest in any Ivy game since topping Columbia 35-9 in 2019.
