STREAKS, STORYLINES & SIDEBARS 

  • Cornell women's basketball is 4-11 on the season and 0-2 in Ivy League play after dropping its Ivy League home opener 69-44 on Saturday to Columbia.
  • Tipoff against the Big Red's next Ivy opponent, Penn, is set for Saturday, Jan. 18 at 1:00 p.m. in Newman Arena. The Big Red then head to Brown for a tipoff on Monday, Jan. 20 at 2:00 p.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
  • Cornell is currently 2-3 overall at home this season, looking to make it .500 on Saturday.The Big Red are 2-8 on the road.
  • The Big Red welcomed a new Rebecca Quinn Morgan ‘60 Head Coach of Women’s Basketball this season in Emily Garner. Garner came from Trinity College where she served as the head coach since 2016. Garner picked up her first win at the helm of the program against Army on Monday, Nov. 4.
  • Cornell was selected seventh in the Ivy League preseason media poll. The Big Red is currently in seventh as of Jan. 14, 2025.
  • Cornell finished 7-19 in the 2023-24 season, ending at seventh in the Ancient Eight. 
  • Emily Pape leads Cornell in points per game with 12.5, steals per game with 1.2 and rebounds per game with 6.7. Pape and Summer Parker-Hall lead the team in total blocks with ten. Azareya Kilgoe leads in assists per game with 2.3.

• Guided Trinity (Conn.) to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances (2023, 2024) and      the school's first-ever NESCAC regular season title.
• Teams posted a 124-55 record, including a 96-35 mark over her final five seasons.
• Four major conference award winners in the conference, including three different           Defensive Players of the Year, as well as a two-time All-American.

 

 

Emily Garner, who lifted Trinity College to new heights during her eight seasons at the helm of the Division III program, was named the Rebecca Quinn Morgan '60 Head Coach of Cornell Women's Basketball on April 11, 2024.

GAME STORY I BOX SCORE 

  • The Cornell women's basketball team fell to 4-11 overall and 0-2 in the Ivy League with a 69-44 loss to Columbia at Newman Arena on Saturday afternoon.
  • The Big Red held the Lions close in the first quarter of play only being down by one point at the end. Columbia then slightly extended its lead in the second quarter to go up 29-20 at halftime.
  • The Lions came out of halftime with a vengeance and outscored Cornell 40-24 in the second half to give Columbia a 69-44 victory.
  • Rachel Kaus led Cornell in points with 13 and blocks with two. Clarke Jackson led the team in rebounds with eight, Vivienne Knee led the team in assists with six, and Emily Pape led the team in steals with two.
  • The Big Red shot 38.89 percent overall in the loss going 16-for-46 from the field (34.8 percent), 4-for-15 from three (26.7 percent) and 8-for-11 from the line (72.7 percent).
