#8 Women's Squash Continues Road Trip This Weekend at #4 Princeton, #3 Penn

ITHACA, N.Y. — The No. 8-ranked Cornell women's squash team (5-2, 1-1 Ivy League) continues its three-match road trip this weekend, squaring off against No. 4-ranked Princeton (5-0, 1-0 Ivy League) and No. 4-ranked Penn (8-1, 1-0 Ivy League).

Friday's contest with the Tigers is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start. Match action will be broadcast on Stretch Internet. Saturday's meeting with the Quakers is slated for a 1 p.m. start time.

LAST TIME OUT
Sophomore Xin Ying Yee improved to 7-0 on the season and junior Devon Shatzman won her season debut as the No. 9-ranked Cornell women's squash team (5-2) posted a 6-3 victory over No. 10-ranked Drexel (5-4) on Wednesday afternoon at the Klein & Specter Squash Center.

Yee defeated Moa Bonnemark, 11-9, 11-8, 11-5, at the No. 1 position and Shatzman cruised past Claudia Adam, 11-7, 11-3, 11-5, en route to being the lone pair of Cornell players to register three-game victories.

Junior Aishwarya Khubchandani (No. 2) and sophomore Christa Kay (No. 5) each posted wins in four games for Cornell, while junior Alysa Ali (No. 4) and Saniya Jaggi (No. 7) both prevailed in five games.

Jaggi came back from a 2-1 deficit with 13-11 and 11-5 victories in the fourth and fifth games to defeat Lijana Sultana. Ali and Emilia Falconi alternated victories, 11-9, 8-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-5, throughout the five-game match.

SCOUTING PRINCETON
Princeton enters the weekend with a 5-0 overall record and winning its lone Ivy League match of the season against No. 7-ranked Yale, 9-0, this past Saturday. The Tigers are one of three CSA programs that remain undefeated, joining top-ranked Harvard (6-0) and No. 5-ranked Stanford (4-0).

Dating back to last season, Princeton has won its last eight regular-season contests.

The Tigers have a 41-4 record in individual matches, tied with Harvard for the best record in the CSA. Princeton also has a 126-24 record in individual games, tied with Harvard for the fewest losses by a CSA program.

Hermione Cao, Katherine Sapinski, and Liyen Teoh all have 5-0 records for the Tigers, a third of Princeton's undefeated players on the season. Caroline Eielson, Josephine Klein, Abigail Schuster, and Zeina Zein (3-0), as well as Connie Nelson and Kristein Weil (2-0) have also not lost a match this season.

SERIES HISTORY WITH PRINCETON
Cornell will be looking for its first-ever victory over Princeton as the Tigers have won all previous 30 meetings against the Big Red.

Last year, Princeton posted an 8-1 victory at the Belkin Squash Courts on Jan. 21, 2024. Winning the lone match for the Big Red was Wen Li Lai, who defeated Liyen Teoh in three games, 11-3, 11-4, 11-6, at the No. 1 match.

SCOUTING PENN
Penn enters the weekend with an 8-1 overall record and has won its lone Ivy League match of the season, defeating Yale, 8-1, this past Sunday. The Quakers' lone defeat came last Saturday when it fell to No. 2-ranked Trinity, 6-3, at the Penn Squash Center.

Sohaila Ismail (7-0) highlights the Quakers' 10 players with undefeated records on the season. Malak Khafagy has also won all six of her matches.

SERIES HISTORY WITH PENN
Penn owns the lead in the series with Cornell, 32-3, and has won the last two contests against the Big Red.

Last year, the Quakers prevailed, 8-1, in the second consolation bracket of the Howe Cup at the 2024 CSA National Collegiate Team Championships in Philadelphia. Maya Voloshin won her match at the No. 8 position by default.

Cornell's last victory over Penn came at the Belkin Squash Courts, 6-3, on Jan. 13, 2023, which snapped a 25-match losing streak to the Quakers.
