PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Cornell fencing team went 1-3 to complete a challenging day at the Philadelphia Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Penn's Tse Center. The Big Red moved its record to 24-8 on the season.
After suffering losses to UCSD (20-7) and No. 2 Notre Dame (19-8) to begin the day, the Big Red was able to claim all three weapons in a dominant 19-8 victory over Johns Hopkins, its second victory of the season against JHU. In a back-and-forth affair to close out the day, No. 6 Duke held off the Big Red 15-12 despite Cornell winning two of the three weapons.
Epeeists
Elaine Hong (6-3) and
Ketki Ketkar (5-2) paced the way for a unit that was 16-20 on the day against some of the nation's top teams. Mi Jo (6-5) posted a winning record with the foil, with
Isabela Carvalho (5-4) doing the same with the sabre.
Cornell closes out the regular season at the Northwestern Duals on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 8-9 in Evanston, Ill.
