Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. --- The Cornell women's tennis team moved to 1-1 on the season after defeating Niagara 7-0 on Friday night in shut-out fashion.
The night began with doubles play as
Alexandra Savu and Andrea Martinez defeated Amelia Greenawalt and Saloni Tamang 6-0.
Sage Loudon and
Victoria Zhao followed that up with a 6-4 victory over Valeria Mora and Larisa Kotok and then
Michelle Ryndin and
Jenny Wong defeated Isabel Garcia and Gabriela Melo 7-5 to close out doubles play 3-0 for the Big Red and earn Cornell a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Zhao began singles play with a win for the Big Red defeating Tamang 6-0, 6-0. Ryndin followed by defeating Melo 6-0, 6-2 to put Cornell up 3-0. The Big Red didn't slow down as they continued on to win the final four singles matches of the night;
Martina Marica defeated Greenawalt 6-2, 6-0, Martinez defeated Garcia 6-1, 6-1,
Tanya Fan defeated Kotok 7-5, 7-5 and
Seychelle Balog finished off the evening by defeating Mora in a hard fought battle 6-4, 6-7(6), 10-3.
The Big Red are now 1-1 on the season and will take to the courts next in the ECAC Indoor Championships from Friday, Feb. 7 through Sunday, Feb. 9 in Philadelphia, PA.Â
