Men's Swim and Dive Rallies Back To Knock Off Brown, 152-148

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Cornell men's swimming and diving team defeated the Brown Bears 152-148 on Saturday afternoon at Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center. The Big Red collected nine event-victories on the afternoon.

"After a disappointing disqualification on the first relay due to an early takeoff by the last leg, we battled back all day long to get the win on the last event.", Wes Newman, the Philip H. Bartels '71 Head Coach of Men's Swimming mentioned.

Pietro Ubertalli took first-place in the 200 yard freestyle (1:35.61), as well as the 200 yard backstroke (1:43.74). Blake Conway registered a finish in the top-spot of the 100 yard backstroke, racing to a time of 47.18 seconds. Joseph Gurski topped the leaderboard of the 200 yard butterfly with his 1:42.90 finish, along with the 100 yard butterfly (46.69 seconds).

Josh Toothman bested the field in the 50 yard freestyle (19.94 seconds). Dominic Edwards earned his way to the top of the rankings in the 100 yard freestyle (43.71 seconds). Julian Correa won the 500 yard freestyle by a razor-slim margin (4:25.28). To end the day, a 400 yard freestyle relay squad of Ubertalli, Jacques Grove, Will Taner, Dominic Edwards earned a clutch victory to give Cornell the four-point victory over the Brown Bears.

"Each person on our team battled back from that adversity and there were many great performances!  I'm proud of how well our guys responded to a tough situation and earned a winning record for the league and overall.", Newman concluded with.

Next Up
The Cornell men's swimming and diving team will return to the water on Saturday, February 1 for competition against Le Moyne at Nottingham High School.
