DURHAM, NC --- Cornell men's tennis defeated Old Dominion 4-1 on Sunday morning to win the consolation round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
Doubles play began with #56 Codie van Schalkwyk and Connor van Schalkwyk defeated
Eric Verdes and
Rushil Khosla 6-3. Cornell bounced back with
Rodrigo Fernandes and
Radu Papoe defeating #41 Adam Majchrzak and Rolland De Ravel 6-3 and
Adit Sinha and
Jack McCarthy defeating #95 Yanis Moundir and Yanis Nelson 7-5 to take the doubles point and go off to a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
#23 Papoe opened the singles competition for the Big Red against #70 van Schalkwyk. Papoe defeated van Schalkwyk 6-1, 6-1 to put the Big Red up 2-0. #88 Rolland De Ravel then defeated
Adit Sinha 6-1, 6-2 to put Old Dominion on the board, losing 2-1.Fernandes defeated Moundir 6-3, 6-4 and
Felipe Pinzon then defeated Aryan Saleh 6-3, 6-2 to give Cornell a 4-1 victory over Old Dominion.
Two singles matches went unfinished in the contest.
