HANOVER, NH — The Rebecca Quinn Morgan '60 Head Coach of Women's Basketball earned her first Ivy League win with the Big Red in its 60-48 victory against the Big Green on Friday night. With this win, Cornell breaks its five-game losing streak.
Three Big Red players scored double digits in the win. Rachel Kaus led the team in scoring with 17 points, Emily Pape notched 12 and Summer Parker-Hall had 11. Four other players scored on the night with Paige Engels having eight, Clarke Jackson with six, Azareya Kilgoe having four and Kelsey Langston notching two. Victoria Page led Dartmouth in points with 16.
The Big Red led in almost every category on the night and showed its prowess on both offense and defense. On offense, Cornell was moving the ball more effectively and quickly as they had 21 assists to Dartmouth's 12. Engels served as a major contributor in facilitation on the night leading Cornell with 10 of the 21 assists.The last time a player on Cornell had 10 assists in a single game was back in 2017. Kilgoe had four assists and Parker-Hall, Pape and Langston all had two assists. Dartmouth was led in assists by Clare Meyer who had six.
The Big Red out-shot the Big Green on every level of the court. Cornell shot 52 percent from the field to Dartmouth's 35.7 percent, 27.3 percent from three to the Big Green's 25 percent and 55.6 percent from the line to Dartmouth's 50 percent.
On the defensive side of the ball, Cornell showed its strength and persistence. The Big Red had seven steals on the night with Engels accounting for five of them and Audrey Chen and Kaus each adding one. Dartmouth had six steals and was led by Alexandra Eldridge who had three. Cornell also had three blocks on the night with Parker-Hall accounting for two and Langston having the other one.
Cornell out-rebounded Dartmouth 31-29. Jackson led the Big Red with eight, Engels had six, Kilgoe had four, Parker-Hall and Pape had three and Langston had one. The Big Green were led in rebounds by Olivia Austin who had 11.
The first-quarter was a true back and forth battle as both teams were staying aggressive on both offense and defense, this caused the first quarter to end in a 13-13 tie. Cornell opened the second quarter on an eight-point run to take the lead and the Big Red carried that momentum through the second quarter, jumping out to a 28-19 lead heading into the half. In the third quarter, Dartmouth was able to hit their stride and bring the game back within four at the end of the third quarter. The Big Red out-scored the Big Green 19-11 in the fourth quarter to earn its first Ivy League win of the season.
