#9 Princeton Uses Early Strikes And Strong Goaltending To Overcome Big Red

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell men's soccer team fell to the no. 9-ranked Princeton Tigers 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Berman Field. The Big Red dropped to 7-2-1, while the Tigers improved to 9-1-0 on the season.

Sam Latona and Giorgos Diakos each registered a pair of shots on net to aid in Cornell's effort in out-shooting Princeton 7-3. Ryan Friedberg registered a save in the game, and moved to 7-2-1 in net.

"We ran into a good team today. I thought we started the game on the front foot and created some moments as the game went on.", John Smith, the Dr. Daniel P. Wood Head Coach of Men's Soccer stated.

Cornell began the game with a formidable push toward the Princeton net, but couple of miscues by the Big Red led to strong opportunities going back the other way toward the net for Princeton.

In the eighth minute, Kristian Kelley made one of those opportunities count as he opened up the scoring to put the Tigers ahead 1-0. In the 28th minute, Standout forward Daniel Ittycheria tacked on another goal for Princeton after a Cornell giveaway.

The Tigers came out strong in the second half, and while getting the best of Cornell's chances Princeton stood tall throughout to keep Cornell off of the board. Andrew Samuals finished the game with seven saves and a shutout victory over the Big Red.

"Overall, the best team on the day won, and so we can't really have any complaints over the result. We will regroup and get ready for another good game against Colgate's on Tuesday.", Smith concluded with.
