Balanced Army Attack Downs Sprint Football

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Army West Point's balanced offense and dominant defense powered the Black Knights to a 49-9 win over Cornell in sprint football action on Friday evening at Schoellkopf Field. Army West Point remained unbeaten at 4-0, while the Big Red slipped to 0-4.

Army struck early and often, building a 28-3 halftime lead behind quarterback Kyle West, who completed 12-of-15 passes for 188 yards and four touchdowns. Carson McFadden hauled in two of those scoring passes, while Gabriel Bolivar added a 20-yard rushing touchdown and Collin Teschka caught a 26-yard score in the fourth quarter.

Cornell got on the board with a 21-yard field goal from Sumner Roberts in the second quarter and a 2-yard touchdown reception by Andrew Lay in the third from quarterback Stefano Luis (18-for-33, 163 yards). The Big Red controlled the clock for over 39 minutes of possession, but Army's quick-strike drives and seven sacks kept Cornell's offense from finding rhythm. Kruz Meier paced the Big Red defense with 10 tackles, including three for a loss and two pass breakups, while Ben Roerden and Alexei DiDonato each recorded sacks. Anthony Rambino had a team-high 41 rushing yards on nine carries, all coming in the first half.
