ITHACA, N.Y. -- Senior Benito Jaramillo-Samper scored 14 goals, including four to set the tone in the first chukker, as the Cornell men's polo team defeated Gardnertown Polo Club 28-10 on Friday evening at Oxley Equestrian Center. The Big Red improved to 1-0 on the year.

Jaramillo-Samper scored seven times in the first half and seven times after the break, but was not alone on the score sheet. Max Sponer added seven goals, Malachi Light had five off the bench and Dylan Tung notched two goals in the first half as the Big Red was never threatened after the break.

Cornell fell behind 2-1 early, but ended the first chukker ahead 5-2. In all, it was an 11-0 run covering the end of the first and most of the second chukker that proved to be the difference, as it was 13-3 at the break and 20-8 after three. In all, the Big Red scored at least seven goals in each of its final three chukkers in the opener.

"This was a solid win for our guys to open the 2025 slate," Condo said. "We're thrilled to get this win as we prepare to head to the UVA Invitational this coming week to face some stiff Division I competition. I'm looking forward to seeing the full potential of this team as the season progresses, and I'm really excited for them."
