ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell women's volleyball team returns home to Newman Arena this weekend, hosting Columbia on Saturday, Oct. 25. First serve is set for 1 p.m., with the match streamed live on ESPN+ and live stats available online.
Big Red So Far This Season (11–6, 6–1 Ivy)
Cornell enters the weekend near the top of the Ivy League standings after a split on the road against Princeton and Penn. The Big Red outlasted the Tigers in a five-set battle on Friday before falling to the Quakers in straight sets on Saturday at Rockwell Gymnasium.
At 11–6 overall and 6–1 in Ivy play, Cornell remains tied for first in the conference standings with Princeton (10–5, 5–2), while Brown (10–6, 5–2) sits close behind.
Senior outside hitter Eliza Konvicka continues to lead the charge for the Big Red, having surpassed 1,000 career kills earlier this fall. She has totaled 238 kills this season while hitting .264. Sophomore middle Mackenzie Parsons ranks sixth nationally in hitting percentage at .423 with 162 kills, while senior outside Nicole Mallus adds a dangerous presence on the pin with 125 kills.
The attack is fueled by the setting duo of senior Doga Ozalp and freshman Mikayla Gray. Ozalp leads Cornell with 319 assists (5.6 per set), while Gray follows with 294 (5.07). Their balanced distribution keeps the Big Red offense unpredictable and efficient.
In the middle, Ava Bogan anchors Cornell's block with 71 total (1.16 per set), while Parsons adds 56 (0.89). Cornell leads the Ivy League in total blocks (147) and averages 2.33 per set. On the back line, junior libero Sarita Pomar has been steady with 241 digs (3.83 per set), helping the team rank second in the league in digs (13.76 per set).
Scouting Columbia (2–15, 0–7 Ivy)
Columbia enters Saturday's matchup still searching for its first Ivy League win. The Lions dropped a pair of three-set matches to Penn and Princeton last weekend and sit at 2–15 overall.
First-year outside hitter Eva Maynulet leads the offense with 2.78 kills per set, while senior opposite Eva Atkins adds 2.47. From the service line, Columbia poses a modest threat — the Lions lead the Ivy League with 110 aces (1.77 per set).
However, consistency has been an issue. Columbia ranks sixth in the conference in most statistical categories, averaging 11.6 kills, 10.82 assists and 2.02 blocks per set while hitting .192 as a team.
Cornell will look to capitalize on its balanced attack, dominant net play, and home-court energy to stay in command against a Columbia team still in rebuilding mode. The Big Red's depth and efficiency should give them the edge, but focus and execution will remain key to maintaining momentum heading into the final stretch of Ivy play.
