Balanced Offense Leads Field Hockey To Victory Over Dartmouth, 5-1

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell field hockey team scored in every quarter and used a balanced attack to post a 5–1 Ivy League win over Dartmouth on Friday afternoon at Marsha Dodson Field. The win kept the Big Red's hopes for a bid to the conference tournament alive in improving to 10-4 (3-3 Ivy), while the Big Green slipped to 3-11 (0-6 Ivy) with the loss.

Five different players found the back of the cage for the Big Red, which bounced back from consecutive losses with one of its most complete performances of the season. Senior Olivia Weir opened the scoring late in the first quarter, converting a pass from freshman Colomba Infante for the first goal of her career, a score that held up as the game winner.

Cornell doubled its lead in the 26th minute when freshman Chloe West buried a penalty corner on the insert from junior Julia Ramsey and a stop from senior Rease Coleman, then struck again just over a minute later on senior Grace Leahy's deflection off another corner from Infante to make it 3-0 at halftime. Ramsey added a fourth goal early in the third quarter on a tip-in from sophomore Uma Käding, and sophomore Blake Wilks capped the scoring in the fourth off Ramsey's second assist of the day.

Dartmouth's Ella Bowman broke up the Big Red shutout with a penalty stroke in the 47th minute, but Cornell goalkeeper Jane McNally finished with four saves to secure the win. The Big Red held a 13–5 advantage in shots on goal and earned 12 penalty corners to the Big Green's 11. Ava Carlson made eight stops for Dartmouth.

In addition to the five goals, the Big Red earned a penalty stroke that was saved by Carlson and a goal disallowed after a video review as the home team kept the pressure on throughout.

QUOTABLE
"I thought we played really well in a hard-fought game and completely deserved the result. I'm delighted for Olivia Weir - she's battled through injuries and it was wonderful to see her get that goal. Now we turn our focus to Penn, clearly the biggest game of the season. We have work to do this week in order to propel us over the line." -- Andy Smith, Head Coach of Cornell Field Hockey
