Konvicka Leads Cornell Past Columbia to Stay Hot in Ivy Play

ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell overpowered Columbia in four sets Saturday afternoon at Newman Arena, winning 25–18, 25–20, 24–26, 25–14 to improve to 12–6 overall and 7–1 in Ivy League play.

Eliza Konvicka led the Big Red attack with a match-high 17 kills on a blistering .536 hitting clip, adding two aces and seven digs for 20 total points. Cornell hit .331 as a team, finishing with 58 kills to Columbia's 42.

Set 1 — Cornell 25–18:
The Big Red came out firing, hitting .438 with 16 kills and only two errors. Konvicka and middle blocker Ava Bogan were unstoppable early as Cornell pulled away after an 8–8 deadlock and closed on a decisive 17–10 run.

Set 2 — Cornell 25–20:
Another 16-kill set powered Cornell to a 2–0 match lead. Setter Doga Ozalp distributed 24 assists across the first two frames while libero Caroline Holdsworth steadied the serve-receive with 10 digs overall.

Set 3 — Columbia 26–24:
Cornell cooled offensively, hitting just .152. Columbia capitalized with 16 kills and fended off multiple late lead changes, there were seven ties, to steal the set and extend the match.

Set 4 — Cornell 25–14:
Cornell slammed the door with its most dominant set of the day, hitting .444 with 15 kills and three aces. Parsons, Bogan and Konvicka combined to overwhelm Columbia at the pins as the Lions never led past 1–1.

Konvicka's 17 kills led all players, while Bogan added 10 kills and five blocks. Middle Mackenzie Parsons and outside Nicole Mallus chipped in 10 and nine kills respectively. Ozalp and setter Mikayla Gray combined for 42 assists, and Cornell finished with seven service aces and six team blocks.

Columbia dropped to 2–16 and 0–8 Ivy League with the loss.

Cornell hits the road next weekend for a crucial Ivy doubleheader, beginning Friday night at Dartmouth at 6 p.m. before heading to Harvard for another 6 p.m. matchup on Saturday, Nov. 1.
