ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell men's heavyweight rowing team will return to home waters on Saturday when it hosts Syracuse for the Cornell Fall Classic on the Cayuga Inlet.
The Big Red will look to build on a solid performance at the Head of the Charles Regatta on Oct. 19, where Cornell placed both of its Championship Four boats inside the top eight. The 'A' boat, coxed by Sofie Cole, finished seventh with a time of 15:50.663, while the 'B' entry, led by coxswain Jack Walker, placed eighth in 15:52.094.
The 'A' crew got off to a strong start in Boston, sitting third at the Riverside Boat Club checkpoint with a 3:30.982 split, trailing only Washington and Princeton's top entries before settling into seventh position. The 'B' boat climbed from ninth to eighth over the middle portion of the 3-mile course and maintained that position through the finish.
Saturday's racing will consist of two 4,000-meter pieces, with crews racing from the Cayuga Inlet out towards Cayuga Lake. Spectators are encouraged to watch from the Boatyard Grille, which will provide optimal viewing of the action.
The Cornell Fall Classic will serve as the program's final event of the fall season before the team shifts focus to winter training ahead of the spring championship campaign. The dual format against ACC opponent Syracuse will provide the Big Red with valuable racing experience on home water as it continues to build toward the spring season.
