ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell women's rowing team will wrap up its fall portion of the season on Saturday when it travels to the Ten Eyck Boathouse in Syracuse, N.Y., for a scrimmage against Syracuse.
The Big Red enters the final event of the fall riding a wave of momentum after back-to-back strong performances. At the Head of the Charles, Cornell earned a bronze medal in the Women's Club Fours event, marking the program's first podium finish at the prestigious regatta since 2017. The four-seat boat crossed the finish line in 18:12.169, less than a second behind second-place Columbia.
Cornell continued its stellar fall at the Head of the Fish Regatta last weekend, capturing four gold medals and seven top-five finishes across its 10 entries. The dominant showing demonstrated the program's depth across multiple boat classes and highlighted the progress made during fall training.
Saturday's racing will begin at 9:30 a.m. with 4,000-meter head-style races starting upriver from the boathouse and finishing closer to the Syracuse facility. Following the 4Ks, crews will compete in two 1,000-meter pieces, with boats pairing up for side-by-side racing that will start from the lake and finish past the boathouse. Spectators are encouraged to view the racing from the Syracuse boathouse.
"For us, this is an opportunity to test some of the things we've been working on this fall against one of the strongest teams in the ACC," said
Steve Coppola, the Staley Head Coach of Cornell Women's Rowing. "We also see them two times in the spring so it will be a good opportunity to get a measure of where we are relative to them before we head into the winter to know what we are chasing."
With a larger squad than Syracuse, Cornell plans to rotate rowers between the 4K and 1K races to provide additional opportunities for the program's younger athletes.
