ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell sophomore middle blocker Mackenzie Parsons has been named Ivy League Co-Player of the Week following a dominant and error-free offensive showing in the Big Red's final weekend of regular-season play.
Parsons delivered a standout performance in Friday's match at Yale, recording a season-high .700 hitting percentage after converting 7 of 10 attacks with no errors. She followed with another elite outing Saturday at Brown, posting a .632 hitting percentage, her third-highest mark of the season, while totaling 12 kills on 19 swings.
Across the two-match weekend, Parsons tallied 19 kills, zero errors, and a combined.655 hitting percentage, anchoring the Cornell attack as the team wrapped up Ivy League play.
Her weekend performance adds to a breakout campaign. Parsons has remained one of the nation's most efficient hitters all season and currently ranks 16th in the NCAA with .418 hitting percentage. As just a sophomore, she has quickly become one of the Ivy League's most formidable offensive threats.
"She is so consistently good for us," shared Trudy Vande Berg, The Wendy Schaenen '79 Head Coach of Volleyball. "She had an incredible weekend - she works so hard and is such a cerebral player. She's always thinking" 'What's the next play? How can I score?' It's what makes her great."
Parsons ended the regular season with 232 kills, further solidifying her impact at the net. She will continue to be a force for Big Red Volleyball as Cornell heads to Princeton, N.J., this weekend to compete in the Ivy League Tournament.
