Men's Basketball Explodes In Second Half for 83-75 Win at UAlbany

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Cornell hit 17 3-pointers and erased a double-digit second half UAlbany lead en route to an 83-75 road win over the Great Danes on Sunday afternoon at Broadview Center. The Big Red improved to 6-5, while the Great Danes slipped to 4-11

Senior Cooper Noard poured in a game-high 25 points, knocking down five 3-pointers and sealing the outcome at the free-throw line in the final seconds as the Big Red snapped a tight, back-and-forth contest with a decisive closing stretch. Cornell trailed 34-29 at halftime after UAlbany closed the opening period on a run fueled by Amir Lindsey and Jaden Kempson. The Great Danes stretched the margin to 42-32 early in the second half, but the Big Red answered with a barrage from long range to swing momentum.

Seniors Adam Hinton and Josh Baldwin hit consecutive 3-pointers to pull Cornell within two, and classmate DJ Nix gave the Big Red its first lead of the half at 55-54 with a triple at the 10:50 mark. From there, Cornell repeatedly answered UAlbany runs, never allowing the hosts to regain control.

Senior Jake Fiegen scored 15 points and provided key baskets down the stretch, including a 3-pointer with 3:15 remaining that pushed Cornell's lead to 72-66. Junior Jacob Beccles followed with two free throws moments later to extend the margin to eight.

UAlbany trimmed the deficit to 67-66 with 4:48 left, but Noard responded with a floater in the lane and later added two free throws with 20 seconds remaining. Fiegen and Noard combined to go 6-for-6 at the line in the final 33 seconds to close out the victory.

Cornell shot 17-for-33 from 3-point range and finished with 23 assists to just eight turnovers, turning a five-point halftime deficit into a controlled second-half performance. The Big Red outscored UAlbany 54-41 after intermission. Sophomore Anthony Nimani had five assists and four rebounds, while Nix ended the day with nine points, four rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots. Baldwin added a team-high five boards to go along with his nine points, including two key 3-pointers. The Big Red held a 32-28 rebounding advantage in the win.

Lindsey led UAlbany with 23 points, while Kempson added 18 and Isaac Abidde finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Great Danes shot 50 percent in the first half but were limited to 41 points after the break as Cornell's defense tightened.
