| By:
ITHACA, N.Y. — The No. 7-ranked Cornell women's squash team will conclude its fall semester on Saturday when it travels to Charlottesville, Va., to face No. 6 Virginia at the McArthur Squash Center.

Cornell (3-1), coming off a 9-0 victory over No. 10 Tufts on Nov. 23, will face Virginia (5-1) with match action scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The match will be streamed on Virginia's YouTube page.

RECENT SUCCESS
The Big Red opened their season in dominant fashion, posting 9-0 victories over No. 16 Middlebury and No. 15 Williams before suffering an 8-1 setback to No. 5 Trinity. Cornell responded with another 9-0 sweep of No. 10 Tufts in its last match on Nov. 23 to close out the homestand.

Freshman Calla Yim and junior Xin Ying Yee have been perfect on the season, each carrying 2-0 records into Saturday's match. Yim has played at the No. 7 and No. 9 positions, while Yee has anchored the lineup at No. 1. Junior Sophia Morales and senior Devon Shatzman have also won their lone matches of the season, while six Cornell players enter the weekend with 2-1 records.

SCOUTING VIRGINIA
Virginia enters Saturday's match having seen its season-opening five-match win streak snapped last Saturday when it fell to No. 3 Penn, 7-2. The Cavaliers opened their season with five straight dominant victories, all of which were decided by either 9-0 or 8-1 scores.

Boasting impressive depth throughout its lineup, Virginia's Charlotte Pastel leads the Cavaliers at No. 1 with a 5-1 record, while Lina Tammam (5-1 at No. 2) and Grace Fazzinga (5-1 at No. 5 and No. 7) have also been consistent performers. Three Cavaliers remain undefeated on the season: Claire Pellegrino (4-0 at No. 6 and No. 8), Piper Giovine (3-0 at No. 7 and No. 8), and Annison Mahaffy (3-0 at No. 8 and No. 9).

SERIES HISTORY
Virginia holds a 7-2 advantage in the all-time series and has won each of the last six meetings between the two programs. Cornell's last victory over the Cavaliers came in a 6-3 triumph in the Kurtz Cup semifinals in Hartford, Conn., on Feb. 23, 2019. The Big Red also won the inaugural meeting between the programs, posting an 8-1 victory in Ithaca on Dec. 2, 2017.
